About the site |

This site is about ninjas. Stick Ninjas. As you may have noticed when you entered the site, it is displayed both in English and in Spanish. “So what? —you may ask— many sites are displayed in many languages”. Well, most of those sites will probably have the same content in all the languages and, unlike those sites, this one doesn’t. That’s right, if you read the site in English you will read some things that aren’t in Spanish and vice versa.
The main reason for this (among other, subtle, things) is that it provides me with a wider range of possibilities regarding available material, which, in turn, allows me to reach a wider readership. The thing is there are jokes that I can make only in one of the languages, but not in the other: puns, cultural situations, etc. In fact, when I upload a strip which appears in both languages, I tend not to think of it as a translation. Even though the joke or situation will be essentially the same, the dialogues and texts on the strips may not be 100% equivalent.
So, if you know both languages and enjoy what the site has to offer, you might want to check both versions out.

About the ninjas

The Stick Ninjas were born during 2007 in a class taken over by a pointless and endless debate; I got bored and started drawing little stick guys in my folder. Next thing I know, the guys started to come out as ninjas with katanas. Some days later I drew one to a friend using Photoshop and he really liked it (or so he said, but, then again, he did use it as a forum avatar, so...). The following step was to adapt the design of the ninjas to a vector program, and that’s when I first saw this as a potential project. Of course, I had plenty on my plate then, so I uploaded what strip I made to deviantART. Some months later I switched to drunkduck (due to their being about webcomics and not just images), but I felt I needed a site of my own, so during the first months of 2008 I had this site done. The rest, as they say, is history.
The Stick Ninjas have a world of their own (well, not a world, but an Island: Gohan Island) and are divided into several clans, identified by the colour they wear (and their distinct personalities as well). The protagonists are those dressed in black: the Kuroi Clan. These guys are really stubborn and they intend to take over the entire island. Unfortunately (for them), they are also really dumb, which usually prevents them from succeeding.
There are other clans as well, like the Kantan Clan (the ninjas in blue), the Kowai Clan (the ninjas in red), etc. All the clans live on the island, and although each one has its own set territory and each one defends that territory to the death, they are, generally speaking, in peaceful terms with each other (except for the Kuroi Clan, of course, who regard almost all the other ninjas as kill-on-sight enemies). As you read your way through the site, you’ll get to know every clan and their different personalities.

About the author

That’s me, I am the author. My name, in what we usually call “real life”, is Federico, but we are on the Internet right now, where I’m best known as Hellspawn (you’ll notice —or not— that all the strips are signed with my online nickname). I was born in 1979, that means that I am, at the moment of writing this piece, 29 years old (you’ll have to do the math from now on); I am presently studying to be a translator and, at present, I live with my wife and pets (all of whom you may see as characters on the strips).
As an additional note, I’m a guy completely obsessed about language and grammar. I usually double check everything I write, but if you find something grammatically wrong in one of my texts, don’t hesitate to let me know: in all probability, I’ll do something about it.
